Hanoi (VNA) – Typhoon Bebinca, the fourth storm to hit Vietnam thisyear, made landfall in the north central province of Thanh Hoa and weakenedinto a tropical low pressure early August 17, according to the NationalCentre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.
The north and north central regions have seen moderate to heavy rain (rainfallfrom 50mm to 150mm) since August 16 evening, posing a risk of flash flood and landslides in mountainouslocalities, especially Lai Chau, Son La, Hoa Binh, Yen Bai, Phu tho, Thanh Hoaand Nghe An.
The centre also warned of floods in low-lying areas and urban areas in the RedRiver Delta and the north central provinces of Thanh Hoa and Nghe An.
On August 16, Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung made a field trip to ThanhHoa to inspect its preparation for the storm, urging the province to mobiliseall resources in order to protect the lives and property of local residents.
He asked chairpersons of the province andits districts to directly steer the evacuation work.
The Deputy PM also inspected the operationof Cua Dat reservoir in Thuong Xuan district, Thanh Hoa province.
All the 7,443 vessels and 27,747 people workingat sea in Thanh Hoa had reached shelters.-VNA
Northern coastal provinces are bracing for storm Bebinca as the storm is forecast to land in the northern coastline from the Hai Phong city to Nghe An province.
Storm Bebinca is heading to coastline from northern Hai Phong city to north central Nghe An province at a speed of about 15km per hour, and is forecast to land over the next 24-48 hours.
More than 600,000 people from the army, militia and military reserve are ready to be mobilised to respond to storm Bebinca, forecast to hit the mainland of Vietnam on the night of August 16.
