Hanoi (VNA) - Typhoon Ya⛄gi entered the East Sea on September 3, becoming the thi🌠rd storm in the sea so far this year, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting (NCHF).
As of 7am, the eye of the storm was at about 18.4 degrees North latitude, 119.8 degrees East longitude, in the northeastern area of the north East Sea. The velocity near its centre was 62-74 km per hour, heading west-northwest at a speed of about 20-25 km per hour.
The typhoon is forecast to keep moving in the same direction at about 10 km per hour on September 4, and change to the west on September 5-6. In the following 72 to 120 hours, the storm will move mainly in the west-northwest direction at 10-15km per hour, with stronger winds.
From September 4-6, Typhoon Yagi may reach very strong level in the northeast of the East Sea.
In the next 24 hours, 2-4m waves may occur in the eastern part of the north East Sea, which may rise to 5-7m on September 4-6, causing rough sea which is very dangerous for ships operating in this area.
Torrential rains are forecast in the area from Ha Tinh to Binh Dinh, the Central Highlands and the South.
The NCHF warned that torrential rains are likely to cause flooding in low-lying areas, along with flash floods on small rivers and streams, and landslides on steep slopes. It advised localities to regularly monitor real-time warnings of areas at risk of flash floods and landslides at its website at //luquetsatlo.nchmf.gov.vn and in bulletins warning of flash floods and landslides.
