UN Special Envoy pledges to coordinate with ASEAN Chair to seek solution to Myanmar issue

Phnom Penh (VNA)🔯 – Cambodian PrimeMinister Samdech Techo Hun Sen held an online talks with Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary General forMyanmar Noeleen Hayzer on January 13, reported the Cambodian news agencyAKP.


Minister Delegate Attached to the Cambodian PM Kao Kim Hourn is quoted by the news agency as saying that both sides mainly discussed the ASEAN-UNFramework Agreement for Cooperation in the context of Cambodia’s assumption ofASEAN Chair 2020.

Hayzer stressed that the UN andCambodia could jointly offer solutions to regional issues, including Myanmarissue.

She called on ASEAN member states to support global efforts tosettle Myanmar issue, including the progress of ASEAN Five-Point Consensus.

Hun Sen, for his part, said Cambodia will focuson the ASEAN Five-Point Consensus oncrisis in Myanmar.

ꦏ He suggested Hayzer hold a working session withCambodian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation  Prak Sokhonn who is ASEANSpecial Envoy to Myanmar, to facilitate and promote cooperation between ASEANand the UN in seeking solutions to the Myanmar crisis./.
