USAID, agriculture ministry sign disaster response MoU

The United States Agency for International Development (USAIDS) and Vietnam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen the management of disaster response on February 2.

By building capacity at the ministry toimplement what is called an Incident Command System (ICS), USAIDSsupports Vietnam’s efforts to continuously improve response andcoordination systems to more effectively respond to all kinds ofincidents and disasters.

“The ICS training programme will be animportant step towards helping Vietnam address disaster risks broughtabout by a changing climate,” said Deputy Assistant Administrator forAsia, Jason Foley, who is visiting Vietnam from Washington.

“TheUS believes that adopting and localisation of the internationally-provenICS systems will both strengthen coordination systems and betterprepare Vietnam to work more closely with its ASEAN partners on disasterresponse.”-VNA

Vietnam ramps up pl💝astic waste recycling, reuse, treatment efforts

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.
