Vietnam aims to boost ties with Mexico

Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnamese National Assembly (NA) Nguyen Thi KimNgan made the affirmation at a working session with Francisco AugustinArroyo Vieyra, Vice President of the Mexican Senate and Emilio ChuayfetChemor, President of the Chamber of Deputies, during her visit to thecountry on December 1-2.


Ngan reaffirmed Vietnam ’sforeign policy of independence and self-alliance, and willingness tobecome a friend and a responsible partner of all countries as well asthe international community.


She spoke highly theMexican people’s support for Vietnam during the struggle fornational independence in the past as well as in the current nationalconstruction and development.


She briefed her hostsabout Vietnam ’s socio-economic achievements over the past years,with an average annual GDP growth of over 7 percent and stable securityand defence.


Regarding Vietnam-Mexico relations,the Vietnamese NA Vice Chairwoman noted that the two countries have seenthe development of their traditional friendship and close cooperationat multilateral and international forums.


Althoughtwo-way trade between Vietnam and Mexico reached 915 million USDin 2010, up 28 percent against the previous year, the figure is yet tomatch the two countries’ potential and strengths, she said.


She suggested that the two countries promote in-depth cooperation inall fields between their parliaments, discuss an intergovernmentalcooperation mechanism, and strengthen cooperation between both sides’ministries and agencies and business circles.


TheMexican side spoke highly of the Vietnamese Government’s efforts toimprove people’s living conditions as well as the country's greatachievements in many fields.


They also valued the roleof the Vietnamese NA in the country’s socio-economic development as wellas the more active participation of Vietnamese women in socialactivities.


They pledged to continue seeking the bestcooperation mechanisms between the two legislative bodies for theinterests of the two countries’ people as well as boost coordination atregional and international forums.


During her stay inMexico , Ngan and her entourage paid a courtesy visit to President ofthe Senate Jose Morfin and met Senator Alberto Anaya Gutierrez, GeneralSecretary of the Mexican Labour Party.


The Vietnamesedelegation also laid a wreath at the President Ho Chi Minh monument inMexico City and visited some of the country's historical and culturalsites./.
