Vietnam aims to defend its world No. 1 status in the World Shuttlecock Championships , which is taking place for the eighth time in Rome, Italy from September 1 -5.

Vietnam aims to defend its world No. 1 status in the World Shuttlecock Championships, which is taking place for the eighth time in Rome, Italy fr om September 1 -5, said Head of the Vietnamese Delegation to the event Nguyen Trong Ho. The tournament also aims to get the Vietnamese seeds better prepared for the fifth upcoming Asian Beach Game (ABG 5) to take place in the central city of Da Nang in 2016, Ho said.
During the first day of the tournament hosted by the International Shuttlecock Federation (ISF), Vietnam bagged the first silver medal in the mixed double with close scores of 26-28 and 21-19. The event attracted nearly 100 athletes from 12 countries and territories around the world, including Austria, India, Poland, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, China and Vietnam.
Players competed in singles, doubles , mixed double and team events for both men and women. Vietnam hosted the seventh event in 2013, and ranked first with four golds and three silvers. The country also secured it s world No. 1 status in the game o ver the other s ix previous events of its kind in Hungary in 2000 and 2007, China in 2001, 2005 and 2010 and Germany in 2002.-VNA
