Vice President and General Secretary of the Vietnam Fatherland FrontCentral Committee Vu Trong Kim is leading a Vietnamese delegation to theGeneral Assembly of the International Association of Economic andSocial Councils and Similar Institutions (AICESIS 2011) that takes placein Rome from July 21-23.
In his report sent to the conference, the VFF leader spoke ofVietnam’s socio-economic achievements and its results in hungereradication and poverty reduction.
From a country lacking food inearly 1990s, Vietnam has become one of the three biggest rice exportersin the world with secured food security, he said.
The reportalso indicated that part of Vietnam’s political system and a politicalfoundation of the people administration, a venue for its members toexpress their will and desire, promote the great national unity bloc andbrings into play people’s mastery rights, contributing to defendingnational independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity andsuccessfully implementing industrialisation and modernisation.
Kimsaid as a member of the AICESIS, the VFF has contributed to theVietnamese State’s efforts to implement a comprehensive strategy oneconomic growth and hunger eradication and poverty reduction to fulfillthe UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
The UN and otherpartners have recognised Vietnam’s results in implementing MDGs onhunger eradication and poverty reduction, says the report, adding thatthe nation is likely to finalise its remaining targets prior to 2015.
Founded in 1999, AICESIS now has 64 member nations and the VFF has become the association’s member in 2009./.
