Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Pham Thi Hai Chuyen led aVietnamese delegation to the 23rd ASEAN Labour Ministers Meeting(ALMM 23) in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar, from May 20-22.
The ministersfrom 10 member nations scrutinised the implementation of a master planon building the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community and the ASEAN LabourMinisters’ Work Programme (ALM-WP) for the 2010-2015 period, andcooperation in improving the competitiveness of the regional workforce.
Tocreate a competitive workforce for the ASEAN Community expected to beformed in 2015, the participants agreed to increase cooperation in thefield and called on the member nations to devise strategies to promotethe quality of their own human resources.
They asked seniorlabour officials to define directions for enhancing labour collaborationfrom 2015, which will aim at better life quality and sustainable jobsfor all people.
Concluding ALMM 23, the ministers issued a joint statement and agreed that Laos will the host of the 24 th event in 2016.
Onthe fringes of the meeting, Vietnamese Minister Chuyen met with thehead of the Lao delegation to discuss ways to boost labour cooperationbetween the two countries.-VNA
