Vietnam attends regional ministerial meeting in Japan
A Vietnamese delegation led by Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh attended the fifth Inter-sessional Ministerial Meeting of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) which opened in Tokyo on July 1.

Tokyo (VNA) – A Vietnamese delegation led by Minister of Industry andTrade Tran Tuan Anh attended the fifth Inter-sessional Ministerial Meeting ofthe Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) which opened in Tokyo onJuly 1.
The event is a chance for the negotiating countries to review progresses of aseries of important chapters of the RCEP, Minister Anh told Vietnam NewsAgency. He highlighted efforts of parties to the RCEP over the past five years,saying there are differences because the RCEP is a large agreement and thedevelopment level of economies to the deal is different, leading to variousbenefit requirements.
Ministers from 16 Asia-Pacific countries joined the event, the first to be heldoutside the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
In his speech, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe called for creating a free,rules-based and fair market.
Earlier, a meeting of heads of working groups was held in Japan and reachedcertain results in the fields such as e-commerce, customs procedures andintellectual property.
The 16 negotiating countries are the 10 ASEAN members -- Brunei, Cambodia,Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam-- plus Japan, China, India, the Republic of Korea, Australia and New Zealand.-VNA
Thailand must join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), a newly formed bloc of 11 nations in Asia-Pacific without the US, and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), Thai Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak said on March 22.
The strategic partnership between Vietnam and Japan is expected to enter a new period of development in the coming time, especially in the fields of trade, economy, defence-security, health, high technology, locality-to-locality cooperation, and people-to-people exchanges.
The Republic of Korea (RoK) and the Philippines have agreed to further expand economic cooperation and work together for an early conclusion of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).
The fine relationship between the House of Councillors of the National Diet of Japan and the Vietnamese National Assembly (NA) has helped develop the bilateral ties between the two nations, said Nguyen Van Giau, Chairman of the NA’s Committee for External Affairs.

NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man stressed the need to accelerate the application of artificial intelligence and smart teaching equipment, innovate teaching and assessment methods, and further improve the quality of formal education.
He also pledged that the NA will promote its ongoing supervision, making sure that every promise must lead to results, and every commitment must bring about real changes.
Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien welcomed the proposals put forward by the US side and reiterated Vietnam’s request for consideration of key areas of interest, including reciprocal tariff policies and access for Vietnamese key export products to the US market.
Deputy PM Le Thanh Long proposed countries promote shared values, including building trust, sincerity, and solidarity among nations and peoples; fostering cooperation spirit and responsible behaviour as well as upholding international law and the UN Charter; and placing people at the centre and as the goal, the key player, and the driving force of all policies.
The show, together with a grand parade to be held silmutaneously at Ba Dinh Square in Hanoi, will celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution, the National Day, and the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA).
