Vietnam, Australia cooperate in UN peacekeeping mission in South Sudan
Australia has supported Vietnam’s third rotation for the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), airlifting Vietnamese defence members and equipment back to the home country, a move to consolidate the two countries’ bilateral ties.

Australia’s DefenceConnect has reported that peacekeepingforces of both sides have collaborated in the UNMISS, with Australia airliftingVietnamese defence members and equipment late in March.
The airlift took place onboard a Royal Australian AirForce (RAAF) C-17A Globemaster, which also transported new members andequipment to replace the Vietnamese UNMISS Level Two Field Hospital, making itthe third airlift support to Vietnam.
“Vietnam is an important partner for Australia in theIndo-Pacific, and I am proud the Australian Defence Force (ADF) has supportedtheir deployment to the UNMISS,” the website quoted Australian Chief of JointOperations Command, Lieutenant General Greg Bilton as saying about the growingrelationship between Australia and Vietnam.
He said the peacekeeping partnership between the twocountries is a key element of their defence relationship, which highlights theirshared vision of a peaceful, inclusive and resilient region actively supportingglobal security.
The airlift has moved some 120 passengers and 55,000kilograms of freight over two months./.
The Ministry of National Defence held a ceremony in Ho Chi Minh City on March 24 to bid farewell to the staff of the level-2 field hospital No. 3 setting off for Bentiu, South Sudan, to join the United Nations peacekeeping mission.
