Vietnam boosts int’l links to stop terrorism, ensure human rights

Ambassador Nguyen TrungThanh, Head of Vietnam’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations inGeneva, was speaking at a discussion session of the UN Human RightsCouncil held on June 30.

He reiterated Vietnam’sstance, condemning any terrorism activity and violence against innocentcivilians and saying as a member of the international conventions onhuman rights, the country has actively implemented solutions such ascompleting a comprehensive legal framework under the Law onAnti-Terrorism in 2013.

The diplomat continued thatany terrorism activity will face strict consequences to serve justiceand ensure national security, public order, safety and individualdignity.

Counter-terrorism laws and measures such asintensifying security inspections and information collection should becarried out in a comprehensive and balanced fashion to ensurefundamental human rights, including the right to freedom for allcitizens across the globe, he added.

Participantsfocused their discussions on the direct and multi-dimensional impacts ofterrorism on the full entitlement to human rights, especially therights to life, freedom and individual safety.

Morethan 50 countries took part in the dialogue to share experience inpreventing violence, threats or terrorism attacks as well as avoidingindirectly funding terrorism activities and managing terrorists.

According to UN conventions, protocols and resolutions, nations areresponsible for cooperating with one another to enact measures againstterrorism.-VNA
