Vietnam calls for dialogue towards comprehensive political solution in Yemen

Vietnam called on all parties concerned in Yemen to resume dialogue towards a comprehensive and long-term political solution for the country, during a debate of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on the crisis in the Middle Eastern country on December 14.

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam called on all parties concerned in Yemen to resumedialogue towards a comprehensive and long-term political solution for the country, during adebate of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on the crisis in the Middle Eastern country on December 14.

🐼 Addressing the debate, Minister Counsellor Nguyen Phuong Tra, Deputy PermanentRepresentative of Vietnam to the UN, urged stakeholders to stop all military activities,resume dialogue, and cooperate with the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary‑General for Yemen to discuss a comprehensive politicalsolution for the country. 

She expressedconcern when the security situation in Yemen in 2021 did not make any progress,saying that military escalation and cross-border attacks can undermine peaceefforts in Yemen and stability in the region.

The Vietnamese diplomat urged all parties concerned to respect international humanitarianlaw and implement the UNSC’s Resolution 2573, which includes theprotection of civil infrastructure works and the promotion of the implementationof the Stockholm Agreement and Riyadh Agreement.

She expressedthe hope that comprehensive political solutions for Yemen led by the UN wouldbe reached soon in the near future, affirming that Vietnam is ready to supportthe goal of peace and stability for Yemen.

Hans Grunderg, Special Envoy of the UN Secretary‑General for Yemen, expressed his alarmregarding the considerable military escalation and increased violence in Yemen.

Participants emphasized the importance of helping Yemen solve the economic crisis,thus contributing to reducing the burden on humanitarian aid resources as wellas addressing challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the current foodshortage in this country.

✨ UNSC member statesaffirmed their continued support for Grunderg's peace efforts for Yemen. They condemned attacks on civilian targetsand civilians in Yemen and Saudi Arabia, called for protecting civilians, and stressedthe need to maintain financial stability for humanitarian activities in thecountry./.
