Vietnam calls for dialogue towards satisfactory solution in Myanmar

Vietnam has called on relevant parties in Myanmar to restrain and hold dialogues to find out a satisfactory solution in line with the nation’s Constitution and law, as well as the will and aspirations of Myanmar people, thereby facilitating the democratic process.

Hanoi (VNA)– Vietnam has called on relevant parties in Myanmar to restrain and hold dialoguesto find out a satisfactory solution in line with the nation’s Constitution andlaw, as well as the will and aspirations of Myanmar people, therebyfacilitating the democratic process.

A Vietnameserepresentative made the call while attending a meeting of the United NationsSecurity Council (UNSC) on March 10.

The representativeemphasized the need to end violence, stabilise the situation and ensure safetyfor civilians.

Vietnam also informedparticipants on ASEAN’s efforts in promoting dialogues and seeking a solutionto the issue, adding that ASEAN is willing to assist Myanmar in a goodwillmanner and in accordance with purposes and principles of the ASEAN Charter.

At the meetinginitiated by the UK, the UNSC expressed its concern about violence in Myanmarand affirmed support for the democratic process and respect for fundamentalfreedom rights of the people, and the rule of law.

The UNSC alsoencouraged peaceful dialogues and mediations in conformity with the will and benefitsof the Myanmar people.

The UNSC stronglybacked the role and efforts of ASEAN, its willingness to assist Myanmar and therelease of the ASEAN Chair’s Statement, which recalls the purposes andprinciples of the ASEAN Charter, calling for restraint and seeking a peacefulresolution through constructive dialogues and practical mediations.

The Council alsovoiced support for the mediatory role of the UN Special Envoy for Myanmar,recommending the Envoy to continue keeping in touch with stakeholders and visitMyanmar in the coming time.

Regarding the humanitariansituation, the UNSC called on Myanmar to ensure safe and unhinderedhumanitarian access, voicing its concern that the situation may worsenchallenges in Rakhine State, including the safe, voluntary and sustainablerepatriation of refugees.

It reaffirmed itssupport for the people of Myanmar and commitment to back sovereignty, politicalindependence, territorial integrity and unification of Myanmar./.
