Vietnam calls for eliminating all forms of discrimination against women, girls
Vietnam has affirmed the importance of preventing and eliminating all forms of discrimination and violence against women and girls, at an October 4 discussion of the Third Committee on Social, Humanitarian & Cultural Issues at the UN General Assembly’s 77th Session.

New York (VNA) – Vietnam has affirmed the importanceof preventing and eliminating all forms of discrimination and violence againstwomen and girls, at an October 4 discussion of the Third Committee on Social, Humanitarian& Cultural Issues at the UN General Assembly’s 77th Session.
Le Thi Minh Thoa, Deputy Permanent Representative of Vietnam at theUN, said the international community needs to define the role of women as goals,motivations, subjects and beneficiaries of sustainable growth.
She proposed countries include gender issues and women'sempowerment in their national planning and policymaking works to ensure thatwomen and girls have equal and full participation and enjoyment in thedevelopment process.
Women themselves need to take advantage of opportunities broughtabout by the 4th Industrial Revolution and digital transformation to catch upwith development trends and maximise their potential and strengths, she noted.

The representative of Vietnam called on internationalorganisations and development partners to continue supporting UN member statesto fulfill their global commitments and obligations in protecting the rights ofwomen and girls.
Gender equality has always been respected in Vietnam’snational policies, Thoa affirmed, adding that ensuring women’s role,participation and contribution in the economic, political and social life isnot only a commitment but also a norm in Vietnam./.
Gender equality will be added into village codes and conventions – the code of ethics developed by the community that has long played an important role in managing social relations in the community in Vietnam.
A diplomat from Vietnam urged the eradication of barriers and discrimination against widows in conflicts while addressing an Arria-formula meeting of the UN Security Council (UNSC) on November 15.
Vietnam has been pushing for legal reforms to provide suitable regulatory framework against all types of discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity, Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Le Thi Thu Hang told a workshop in Hanoi on May 27.

The Chairman stressed the need for stricter fiscal discipline, faster digital transformation, and more efficient management of State budget revenues and expenditures.
