Vice Chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly’sCommittee for Social Affairs Luong Phan Cu said Vietnam always considersdeveloping economy in association with social policy development.
TheVietnamese Party and State have issued numerous laws including the Lawon Labour, Social Insurance, Drug Prevention and Control and GenderEquality, built social programmes on safe water, crime prevention andcontrol, job generation and preferential loans and others, launchednationwide movements, including Day for the Poor and Environment Day andmobilised people and socio-political organisations taking part insocial activities, said Cu.
Assistant President of China NationalCommittee on Ageing Xiao Caiwei said that China’s social policies,especially on elderly people have been widely carried out.
Therate of elderly people in the country’s population has increased from 10percent in 1999 to 13 percent (167 million people) by the end of 2009,he said, adding that Chinese elderly people makes up one-fifth of theglobal elderly population.
China has carried out many socialpolicies, including those on taking care of the elderly and familyplanning, which, he said, have helped reduce birth rate and increasepeople’s longevity.
Earlier, a seminar on Vietnam-China educational policies was held in Hanoi on Dec. 11.
Theseminar drew the participation of Head of the Chinese People’sAssociation for Friendship with Foreign Countries Chen Haosu, Presidentof the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) Vu Xuan Hong anda large number of Hanoi university students.
