Vietnam Culture Week held in Myanmar

Bangkok (VNA) – The Vietnam Culture Week took place inYangon city, Myanmar, on September 27 – 30 to popularise images of Vietnam andits people.

It was part of a series of Vietnamese events in Myanmar this year torealise bilateral comprehensive cooperative partnership and culture cooperationagreement for the 2017 – 2020 period signed by the two countries’ leaders.

Within the framework of the week, a ceremony marking the 74th anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day and two years of the upgrade of theVietnam – Myanmar ties to the comprehensive cooperative partnership level wasalso held.

Speaking at the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to Myanmar Luan Thuy Duong saidVietnam – Myanmar ties have been growing in diverse areas over the past years,including in trade and investment, national defence-security, agro-forestry,seafood, energy, telecommunications, tourism, justice, education, culture andpeople-to-people exchange.

Vietnam is now the ninth largest trade partner and the seventh largestforeign investor of Myanmar, she said.

Speaking highly of Vietnamese firms’ contributions to Myanmar, Duong saidbusinesses not only help bring the two peoples closer but also further developbilateral ties, contributing to stability and prosperity in the region.

Myanmar Minister for Transport and Communications Thant Sin Maung affirmedthat Vietnam is always a trustworthy friend of Myanmar, and highlighted thesignificance of high-level visits by the two nations’ leaders.

He congratulated Vietnam on becoming a non-permanent member of the UnitedNations Security Council and believed that Vietnam will well perform the roleof ASEAN Chair 2020.

On the occasion, the Vietnamese embassy and Myanmar Ministry of ReligiousAffairs and Culture held the Vietnam – Myanmar cultural exchange themed“Traditional and modern colours”.

As part of the week, the Vietnamese Embassy in Myanmar and the VietnameseMinistry of Information and Communications held a photo exhibition on ASEANcountries and peoples./.

♕ Vietnamese culture takes centre stage in Korean city

ꩵ Vietnam re-elected to 2005 UNESCO Convention’s Intergovernmental Committee

This is the first time since the adoption of the Convention that a country has served two consecutive terms on the Committee. The outcome shows the trust and recognition that member states have given Vietnam for its efforts and achievements in carrying out and promoting the Convention, as well as for its active role, strong standing, and growing credibility at UNESCO.
