Hanoi (VNA) – Exports of fruits and vegetables in October areestimated to reach 209 million USD, raising total export value of the productsto 2.84 billion USD in the first 10 months of this year, up 41.2 percent overthe same period of 2016.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), China,Japan, the US and the Republic of Korea were the leading markets of Vietnam.Meanwhile, the highest growth was seen in the Japanese market with 66.1percent, the UAE was second at 58 percent and growth in China hit 53.1 percent.

The ministry also reported that imports of the products were 96 millionUSD in October and 1.25 billion USD in the first 10 months of 2017, surging70.8 percent year on year.

The ministry said that the fluctuation in vegetable and fruit market wasdue to complicated weather developments that changed both supply and demand.

Notably, heavy rains in the month destroyed a lot of crops, almostdoubling vegetable prices.

Cooler weather in central and northern regions also lowered freshcoconut prices in Ben Tre province from 80,000 VND per dozen to under 60,000VND per dozen.

A shortage in fruits in the north also led to high prices of longan anddragon fruit, added the MARD.-VNA
