Vietnam enters quarter-finals at women’s futsal tourney
Vietnam’s women futsal team advanced to the quarter-finals of the Asian Football Confederation Women’s Futsal Championship 2018 in Thailand, after defeating Malaysia 3-1 in a match on May 6.

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam’s women futsal team advanced to the quarter-finals of the As𒁃ian Football Confederation Women’s Futsal Championship 2018 in Thailand, afterꦬ defeating Malaysia 3-1 in a match on May 6.
Do Thi Nguyen opened the score at the 17th minute while Trinh Nguyen Thanh Hang scored two goals at the 18th and 38th minute, respectively. Malaysia managed to score one goal at the 18th minute attributed to Zurain Kamarudin.
With this victory, Vietnam topped the Group B with three straight wins. The team will face Indonesia, the runner-up of Group A in the quarter-finals on May 9. It is the first time that the Vietnam has entered this far in the Asian event.

Being impressed with Vietnam’s recent success, the world football governing body FIFA has published an article reviewing the country’s achievements, while suggesting that another turning point is approaching.

Eight teams will join the tournament, divided into two groups. Group A features Vietnam, the Philippines, Sichuan Club (China), and Australia, while Group B consists of Vietnam U21, Korabelka Club (Russia), Taiwan (China), and U21 Thailand.
Despite strong home support and high expectations, Vietnam were unable to overcome the defending champions, who secured their third consecutive win over Vietnam in a regional final, following previous victories in 2014 and 2023.
The event, part of Vietnam’s cultural diplomacy strategy through 2030, was jointly organised by the Vietnamese Embassy in Venezuela and USM’s Faculty of International Relations. It attracted thousands of students from universities across Venezuela.

The U23 competition will run from June 16 to 22, followed by the U17 event from June 23 to 28, while athletes competing in the U23 category will undergo weight and skill checks ahead of the matches starting June 18, while similar checks for U17 athletes will take place before June 23.
