Vietnam-France joint defence committee holds fifth session

The Vietnam-France Joint Committee on Defence Cooperation held its fifth session in Hanoi on April 27.

Deputy Defence Minister Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh andDirector of Strategic Affairs at the French Ministry of DefencePhilippe Errera co-chaired the meeting.

Deputy Minister Vinhsaid Vietnam regards France as an important partner and stressed that itis necessary to find out and promote ethos of each side for effectivecooperation, making defence ties one of pillars in the two countries’strategic partnership in the interests of the two countries’ people.

Forhis part, Errera said France attaches importance to defence cooperationwith Vietnam and backs the country’s commitments to promoting peace andstability in the region and the world.

At the meeting, bothsides agreed to continue boosting bilateral defence cooperation,including delegation exchanges and training, maritime security and UNpeacekeeping experience sharing.

The two sides also consented to tightening coordination and mutual support at multilateral forums.

Duringthe session, the two defence ministries signed an agreement oncooperation in the fields of hydrographic surveying, oceanography, andnautical chartering.-VNA

Lao Minister of Foreign Affairs Thongsavanh Phomvihane affirmed that the presence of Vietnamese press offices in Laos vividly demonstrates the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between the two nations, as the press is not only a means of communication but also an important bridge for spreading consciousness about the history, values, and strategic depth of the Laos – Vietnam relationship to the people of both countries and the international community.
