Hanoi (VNS/VNA) - Vietnam won one more gold and silver medal inthe athletics event at the 10th ASEAN Schools Games in Selango, Malaysia onJuly 24.

Phan Vo Nhu Y, To Thi Nga, Nguyen Thi Kim Ngoc, and Bui Thi Trang beat rivals fromThailand, Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia to win gold in the women’s 4x400m.

The silver medal went to Hoang Thanh Giang in the men’s triple jump with a leapof 12.74m.

The Vietnamese track and field athletes have won a total of seven golds, threesilvers and one bronze in the Games.

“I am very glad that Vietnamese athletes bagged gold medals in 1,500m, 400mhurdle and 4x400m category as most of them competed in the event for the firsttime. These are worthy awards for their effort,” said Nguyen Manh Hung,athletics coach.

After four days of competition, Vietnam gained 13 golds, eight silvers and sixbronzes to rank fourth in the medal tally. Hosts Malaysia led with 30 golds, 26silvers and 25 bronzes, followed by Indonesia and Thailand.

Vietnam sent 60 athletes to compete at the event, which attracted theparticipation of 4,000 young athletes from the 10 ASEAN nations.
