Vietnam issues regulations on environmental protection deposit for scrap imports

Specifically, the environmental protection deposit aims toensure that scrap importers bear the responsibility for handling possibleenvironmental pollution risks arising from the imported scrap.
Organisations and individuals importing scrap shall make deposit at the Vietnam Environmental Protection Fund or the local environmentalprotection fund or the credit institution where they open a transactionaccount.
The deposit is made in accordance with each shipment or eachcontract with information and value of the imported scrap shipment./.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE) and relevant agencies on August 22 discussed measures to tighten control of used goods import and the re-export of waste shipments which failed to meet environmental protection regulations.
As many as 10,102 scrap containers were held up at Vietnamese ports as of mid-September, a fall of 10,852 containers as compared to the end of 2018, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs.
