The first environmental projects under the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) will be implemented in Vietnam, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Hong Ha said during a meeting on August 4 in Hanoi.
During the forth JCM meeting, participants discussed two approaches to implement joint-crediting projects, such as adding electricity-saving transformation stations to the power distribution network, and treating organic waste gases in biological gas production for Binh Dien market in Ho Chi Minh City.
Nagai Katsuro from Japanese Embassy in Vietnam highlighted the implementation of the JCM in the framework of the Vietnam-Japan Memorandum of Understanding for low-carbon development, saying it has boosted the joint efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to the global adaptation to climate change.
The implementation of the projects on green driving with electronic speed-metres and power conservation in hospitals and hotels are expected to address issues related to waste, transport and energy in Vietnam, Nagai Katsuro added.
Initiated by Japan, the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) is designed to boost bilateral cooperation with developing countries in greenhouse gas emission reduction through the adoption of Japanese advanced low-carbon technologies.-VNA
