Vietnam, Laos review cooperation in home affairs

Hanoi (VNA) – Minister of Home Affairs LeVinh Tan hosted a reception for his Lao counterpart Khamman Sounvileuth inHanoi on September 28, during which the two sides reviewed their cooperationover the past years.

Minister Le Vinh Tan gave his guest a brief overview ofthe Ministry of Home Affairs of Vietnam and looked back at the cooperationagreements signed between the two ministries since 1995.

The Ministries of Home Affairs of Vietnam and Laos haveorganised a number of joint activities and exchanged delegations under their cooperationprogramme for the 2016-2020 period signed in 2016.

The Vietnamese ministry has provided training forofficials of the Lao National Archives Department. In addition, many Laoofficials and students have received training in the State administrativemanagement in Vietnam in the framework of cooperation programmes between thetwo governments and other ministries.

Tan suggested the two sides meet to review what have beendone annually to timely address arising problems and make plans for thefollowing years. There should be more delegation exchange visits to strengthensolidarity and friendship between the two countries, he said.

Minister Tan affirmed that his ministry is ready to sendexperts to Laos to continue training its officials.

Khammanh Sounvileuth, for his part, stressed that thebilateral cooperation between the two sides in recent years is very importantto Laos. He also thanked Vietnam for funding the construction of the LaoNational Archives.

On behalf of the Lao State and Party, Minister KhammanSounvileuth presented the Lao Order of Freedom, second class, to Minister LeVinh Tan and the third-class Order of Freedom to five Vice Ministers of HomeAffairs of Vietnam. He also presented the first-class Labour Order to severalindividuals and units of Vietnam’s Ministry of Home Affairs for contributing tothe solidarity between the two countries.-VNA
