Vietnam, Laos should further religious affairs links: Deputy PM

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has suggested that Vietnam’s Government Committee on Religious Affairs and the Lao Front for National Construction (LFNC) enhance their cooperation in religious affairs in the coming time.

During his reception for theLFNC delegation led by Vice Chairman Kenta Kongbounmy in Hanoi on July8, Phuc spoke highly of the outcomes of the talks between the twoagencies, and the signing of a cooperation agreement among them for2014-2020.

He said that the recent effective cooperation betweenthe two sides contributed to further strengthening the traditionalfriendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties andStates, expressing his hope that the LFNC will continue working tofoster the special relations between the two countries.

Phuc alsoaffirmed that Vietnam will help train Lao personnel working inreligious affairs in university and postgraduate education.

Kongbounmyinformed the host about the results of cooperation between his agencyand the Vietnamese Government Committee on Religious Affairs in recentyears, and of Laos’s socio-economic development in the first half of2014.

Earlier the same day, the LFNC and Vietnam’sGovernment Committee on Religious Affairs signed a cooperation agreementwhich will allow them to further their partnership in religiousaffairs.

Under the agreement, the two sides will fostercoordination in human resources training through the Vietnam-LaosInter-Governmental Cooperation mechanism.-VNA
