Vietnam lose to Russia in Chess Olympiad

The Vietnamese women’s team lost to Russia 1.5-2.5 in the ninth round match of the Chess Olympiad on September 12 in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Hanoi (VNA)꧋ - The Vietnamese women’s team lost to Russia 1.5-2.5 in the ninth round match of the Chess Olympiad on September 12 in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Pham Le Thao Nguyen tied with Kosteniuk Alexandra, while Hoang Thi Bao Tram lost to Gunina Valentina. Nguyen Thi Mai Hung and Nguyen Thi Thanh An drew with Goryachkina Aleksandra and Pogonina Natalija.
After nine matches, Vietnam have 12 points to rank 16th out of 140 teams. They will next play Estonia in the last match. On the men’s side, Vietnam beat Azerbaijan 2.5-1.5 to rank 13th out of 150 teams.
Le Quang Liem bested Durarbayli Vasif. Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son tied with Abasov Nijat. Meanwhile Nguyen Anh Khoi and Dao Thien Hai drew with Guseinov Gadir and Guliyev Namig. The men’s team will face Slovenia in the next match.-VNA
