Vietnam, Mexico discuss indigenous people’s development

During hisnine-day trip to Mexico, that concluded on Sept. 15, Hoan met withrepresentatives of the Mexican Ministries of Foreign Relations, PublicEducation and Health and Social Development.

He also had working sessions with the Mexican National Commission forthe Development of Indigenous Peoples, the Mexican National Council forthe Evaluation of Social Development Policy, the Mexico MulticulturalNation University Programme (PUMC) at the National AutonomousUniversity of Mexico (UNAM) and the Mexican Indigenous PeopleSustainable Development Organisation.

Officials from both sides studied ways of providing cash assistance,organising seminars on indigenous people social policies, educationpolicies for remote and mountainous areas as well as the difficultiesthat indigenous people have in accessing education and bilingualteaching.

The Mexican host suggested having exchange programme between the CEMAand Mexico through an intermediary body in the United NationsChildren’s Fund (UNICEF), on fields of mutual concern.

Both officials discussed their experiences in supporting ethnicminorities, Hoan said, adding that Vietnam is willing to cooperate withMexico in this field.

While in Mexico, the CEMA delegation visited several establishments todevelop indigenous people’s policies and toured a number of Statesaround the country, the Vietnam Park and President Ho Chi Minh’smonument in Mexico City./.
