Mexico City (VNA) – The second meeting of theVietnam – Mexico joint committee on economy-trade-investment cooperation tookplace in Mexico City on July 9 and 10.
Speaking at the function, Deputy Minister of Industry andTrade Do Thang Hai lauded progress made in bilateral trade, stressing thatMexico is Vietnam’s 2nd biggest trade partner in Latin America whileVietnam is Mexico’s 8th largest partner in Asia-Pacific.
Echoing Hai’s view, Undersecretary for Foreign Trade inMexico's Secretariat of Economy Luz Maria de la Mora said increasing bilateraltrade turnover reflects strengthening ties.
Highlighting the important role of the joint committeemechanism in boosting bilateral relations, both sides agreed to focus onpushing up bilateral trade via trade promotion activities and diversificationof import-export products.
They said they will work to effectively implement the Comprehensiveand Progressive Agreement on Trans-Pacific Partnership and continuecollaborating in agriculture, science-technology, finance, health andeducation.
They took the occasion to discuss mechanisms that helpidentify opportunities for new products and sectors as well as increasetrade-investment delegation exchanges.
The sides agreed on the importance of signing an agreementbetween the Mexican Business Council for Foreign Trade (COMCE) and the VietnamChamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI).
Concluding the meeting, the two head delegates signed itsminutes.
In an interview with the Vietnam News Agency, Hai said hebelieves Vietnam-Mexico economy-trade ties will be lifted to new heights, whileMora affirmed Mexico considers Vietnam a strategic one. The Mexican officialsaid room for cooperation between Vietnamese and Mexican firms remainsextensive, which will help Vietnamese products get an easier access to theNorth American and Latin American markets.-VNA
The Vietnamese Embassy in Mexico and the International Studies Faculty of the Mexico Institute of Autonomous Technology jointly held a conference on the Vietnam-Mexico relations to discuss the outlook of cooperation between the two countries.

During the negotiations, the US highly evaluated Vietnam’s goodwill and efforts, affirmed its appreciation for the bilateral relationship, acknowledged Vietnam’s proposals and concerns, and considered these an important basis for continuing discussions and moving towards a final agreement.
The Chairman stressed the need for stricter fiscal discipline, faster digital transformation, and more efficient management of State budget revenues and expenditures.
