Vietnam Motorkhana Championship 2021 opens

The Vietnam Motorkhana Championship 2021, the first-ever international-standard professional sport car race in Vietnam, opened in Hanoi on January 15.

Hanoi (VNA) - The Vietnam Motorkhana Championship 2021, the first-ever international-standard professional sport car race inVietnam, opened in Hanoi on January 15.

The event was co-organised by the VietnameseMotorsport Association Limited Liability Company (VMA LLC) – a member of the InternationalAutomobile Federation (FIA) and the Hanoi Sports Training and Competition Centre.

Attracting14 racers licensed by the National Sporting Authority (ASN) of the FIA inVietnam in the first category and 11 others from VMA LLC’s clubs nationwide in thesecond category, the event was designed to test the acceleration, braking andhandling of cars as well as skills and judgment of drivers. Racing cars aremostly sedan, hatchback, CUV and SUV models.

ඣ It was also meant to choose the best racers for the FIA World MotorsportGames held in mid-October in Europe.

After dramatic races, Nguyen Ngoc Trung won the championship in the first category, with a time of 2min 23.36 sec. He walked away with a prize of 50 million VND (2,200 USD).

Pham Quoc Huy came second with 2:30.75 while title favourite Truong Nam finished third, 2:75.85.

Meanwhile, Nguyen Dang Quang overcame other rivals to take the title of the second category.

Despite strong home support and high expectations, Vietnam were unable to overcome the defending champions, who secured their third consecutive win over Vietnam in a regional final, following previous victories in 2014 and 2023.
