Vietnam named ASEAN+ Age Group Chess Champs

Vietnam have triumphed at the 17th ASEAN+ Age Group Chess Championships 2016 which concluded at Dusit Thani Hotel, Pattaya City, Thailand.

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam have triumphed at the 17th ASEAN+ Age Group Chess Championships 2016 which concluded at Dusit Thani Hotel, Pattaya City🃏, Thailand.

The team won 29 golds, 28 silvers and 27 bronzes to take the lead at the week-long event which concluded on June 6, followed by the Philippines with eight golds, 10 silvers and 11 bronzes. Indonesia came third with five golds, two silvers and one bronze.
As many as 342 junior chess players participated in the event. They came from 13 countries including Malaysia, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan and Switzerland.
The tournament registered the fourth highest participation since 2000. A number of records have been achieved with Vietnam registering 144 players, Thailand with 65 players, the Philippines 54 and Malaysia not too far behind with a record of 46 players. For the record and also for the first time representatives from Japan and Kyrgyzstan took part in the event.-VNA
