Havana (VNA) – The Vietnam News Agency (VNA) and Cuba’s Prensa Latina NewsAgency (PL) renewed their cooperation agreement in Havana on March 29.

VNADeputy General Director Dinh Dang Quang and PL President Luis Enrique GonzalezAcosta signed the pact, which looks to strengthen information exchanges and thesides’ traditional collaboration.

Thesigning ceremony took place after the talks between visiting General Secretaryof the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong andFirst Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba’s Central Committee andPresident of the Councils of State and Ministers Raul Castro Ruz.

The agreement was among nine official documents secured between Vietnamese andCuban governments, ministries, and sectors, which were witnessed by both Partyleaders.

Accordingto the pact, the VNA and PL will exchange information in different languagesbased on a varieties of media platforms, with a priority given to the coverageof breaking news in Vietnam and Cuba.

Thetwo agencies are committed to continuing to provide the best support possiblefor their representative offices, correspondents, and special envoys workingoverseas in their respective countries.

Thanksto mutual assistance between the sides in expert exchanges and printing, theVNA has improved its performance in offering domestic and foreign newsservices. It is planning to expand the distribution network of its VietnamPictorial publication in Spanish in Cuba and some Latin American countries.

ThePL is developing into a multi-platform news agency and intends to cover morenews about the Asia-Pacific, particularly Vietnam.

TheVNA and PL vowed to boost their cooperation on par with traditional relationsand special solidarity between Vietnamese and Cuban parties and people.

Alsoin Havana, the VNA and the Cuban News Agency (ACN) inked a memorandum ofunderstanding on cooperation to enhance effectiveness and help informationexchanges and professional assistance between the sides meet demand of thepress in the modern age.

Atthe talks between leaders of the two agencies, ACN director Edda Fe Diz Garcesreviewed the development of the ACN, with highlights given to a trend ofproviding more direct services for readers apart from its traditional role asofficial information source for other news agencies.

VNADeputy General Director Dinh Dang Quang affirmed with similarities infunctions, roles, and development orientations, the VNA and ACN hold greatpotential to step up engagements based on their freshly-signed MoU.

Thetwo cooperative documents were signed as part of the ongoing State-visit toCuba by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, which was made at the invitationof First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba’s Central Committee andPresident of the Council of State and the Council of Ministers Raul Castro Ruz.

Thevisit by Party chief Nguyen Phu Trong to Cuba is the first high-level meetingbetween the two countries after the passing of Cuban revolutionary leader FidelCastro Ruz in 2016, and also the Vietnamese Party chief’s first visit to theLatin-America following the 12th National Congress of the CPV the sameyear.-VNA
