Vietnam pocket nine more medals at 17th AUG

Vietnam won one gold, six silver and two bronze medals at the ongoing 17th ASEAN University Games (AUG 17) in Palembang, Indonesia on December 20, raising its total number of medals to 32.

The goldwent to Pencak Silat artist Dao Thi Tuyet in the women’s 55kgcategory while her teammates Bui Ba Duc, Nguyen Thi Kim, Nguyen Minh Namand Hoang Thi Loan earned four silvers in the men’s and women’s 50kgand 60kg events, respectively.

The remaining two silver medals belonged to Nguyen Anh Tu and Hoang My Trang in the men’s and women’s table tennis singles.

Vietnamese athletes are scheduled to compete in swimming and Pencak Silat on December 20.

TheAUG is held every two years by the ASEAN countries in rotation. Thisyear’s event features 20 sports with 225 sets of medals.

The50-strong Vietnamese delegation competes in six sports, namely track andfield, swimming, table-tennis, Taekwondo, Karate and chess.

At the previous games in Laos, Vietnam ranked second with 56 gold, 35 silver and 28 bronze medals.-VNA
