Vietnam presents 50,000 USD for Myanmar’s COVID-19 fight
Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Quoc Dung, on behalf of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, symbolically handed over 50,000 USD to the Ambassador of Myanmar to Vietnam Kyaw Soe Win to support the country’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hanoi (VNA)- Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Quoc Dung, on behalf of Prime Minister Nguyen XuanPhuc, symbolically handed over 50,000 USD to the Ambassador of Myanmar to Vietnam Kyaw Soe Winto support the country’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
Speaking at a ceremonyin Hanoi on April 10, Dung said Vietnam and Myanmar are not only both members ofASEAN but also close cooperative partners.
Vietnam’s decision toprovide the funds to Myanmar in the context of it also being hit hard by the pandemic demonstrates the close relationship and mutual support between the two countries aswell as the solidarity of ASEAN members.
He expressed a hope thatthe aid will partly help Myanmar overcome this difficult time.
The Deputy FM affirmed that withits role as Chair of ASEAN in 2020 and as a non-permanent member of the UN SecurityCouncil in 2020-2021, Vietnam will maintain close coordination with Myanmar andother countries inside and outside of the region to together conquer the globalpandemic.
He asked the MyanmarGovernment to continue creating favorable conditions for the Vietnamese communityin the country to stabilize their lives and gain access to necessary healthcareservices,
Ambassador Kyaw Soe Winsaid the Vietnamese Government’s support provides great encouragement to Myanmarduring this time.
He spoke of Vietnam’sachievements in disease prevention and control and added that its active supportfor and cooperation with other countries expresses its sense of responsibility asChair of ASEAN in 2020 and a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in2020-2021./.
Vietnam, as ASEAN 2020 Chair, has been proactively promoted joint efforts of the 10-member group in the fight against COVID-19 with the spirit of "cohesive and responsive", said Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Quoc Dung at a press conference in Hanoi on April 9.
Foreign Ministers of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) on April 9 agreed to form a COVID-19 response fund to collectively fight against the disease, according to a statement released after the 25th ASEAN Coordinating Council Meeting on COVID-19 via video conference.
