Hanoi (VNA) - With two more bronze medals gained on October 5, Vietnamtemporarily ranks 20th on the medal table of the 19th AsianGames (ASIAD), which is taking place in Hangzhou city of China.
DinhThi Huong of Vietnam won 1 - 0 over Ceyco Zefanya of Indonesia to pocket a bronze in thewomen's 68kg karate kumite event.
Meanwhile, Jujitsu fighter Phung ThiHue earned the other bronze medal after beating Sugun Nutchaya from Thailand 2 -1 in the women’s 48-kilogramme event.
So far,Vietnam has secured two gold, three silver, and 16 bronze medals at the 19th ASIAD, ranking 20th on the medal table and fifth among SoutheastAsian countries, after Thailand (10 golds), Indonesia (6), Malaysia (5), andSingapore (3).
Meanwhile,the medal standings are still dominated by China (178 golds, 99 silvers, 55bronzes), followed by Japan (44, 53, 60), the Republic of Korea (33, 47, 77), India(21, 32, 33), and Uzbekistan (18, 16, 25)./.
The Vietnamese women's sepak takraw team of four won one more gold medal for Vietnam at the 19th Asian Games (ASIAD 19) in China after defeating their Indonesian rival on October 4.
Just over an hour after Phung Thi Hue won a bronze in the women's 48kg Jujitsu category, Dinh Thi Huong secured another bronze in the women's 68kg karate kumite event for the Vietnamese sport delegation at the 19th Asian Games in China on October 5.
The ambassador noted that among the 300,000 Vietnamese residing in the RoK, around 3,000 are living in Pyeongtaek and contributing actively to the local economy. Ho expressed his hope that the local authorities will continue support the overseas Vietnamese community in the city.
This is the first time since the adoption of the Convention that a country has served two consecutive terms on the Committee. The outcome shows the trust and recognition that member states have given Vietnam for its efforts and achievements in carrying out and promoting the Convention, as well as for its active role, strong standing, and growing credibility at UNESCO.
