- Minister of PublicSecurity To Lam had a meeting with Robert Kaliňák, Deputy Prime Minister andMinister of Interior of Slovakia, in Hanoi on June 3.

At the function, Minister Lam told his guestabout outcomes of a recent visit to Slovakia of the Vietnamese Ministry ofPublic Security from March 4-6.

He said Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc spokehighly of the outcomes, particularly agreement between the ministry and SlovakMinistry of Interior to increase delegation exchanges and cooperation to handlecrime involving Vietnamese and Slovak nationals.

PM Phuc also tasked the ministry witheffectively carrying out a collaboration pact on crime prevention signed withthe Slovak Ministry of Interior and drafting agreements on extradition andtransfer of convicts between Vietnam and Slovakia.

Lam took the occasion to hand his guest the twodrafts for review before the two countries sitting down for negotiations.

He proposed both nations continue to exchangedelegations and experience in fighting crime and work together to hunt wanted personshidden in their respective countries and to facilitate Vietnamese and Slovakexpatriates.

He asked the Slovak Minister of Interior to providetraining for Vietnamese police on dealing with money laundering and cyber crimeand carrying out search and rescue missions. 

He said his ministry is willing to help Slovakpersonnel to learn Vietnamese and engage in joint research and production ofsecurity equipment.

For his part, Robert Kaliňák said he is lookingforwards to growing bilateral cooperation in the future.

The same day, the Slovak minister was receivedby Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, who expected Vietnam-Slovakia trade tothrive from the current average yearly sum of 500 million USD.

PM Phuc said the two countries’trans-governmental committee needs to hold sessions soon to discuss cooperationprogrammes.

Vietnam is committed to facilitating Slovakinvestors, particularly in the sectors of infrastructure construction, health,and garment, he noted.

The Slovak official said his previous meetingwith Minister of Public Security To Lam have resulted in bilateral agreement inpersonnel training and the establishment of a working group on cooperation.

Robert Kaliňák said he expects Prime MinisterPhuc to soon pay an official visit to Slovakia.-VNA
