Vietnam targets two gold medals in tennis at SEA Games 32

Vietnam aims to grab one or two gold medals at the 32nd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 32) in Cambodia, according to Nguyen Kim Cuong, who is in charge of tennis at the Vietnam Sports Administration (VSA).

Hanoi (VNA) –Vietnam aims to grab one or two gold medals at the 32nd SoutheastAsian Games (SEA Games 32) in Cambodia, according to Nguyen Kim Cuong, who isin charge of tennis at the Vietnam Sports Administration (VSA).

The Vietnamese tennis team to the Games will comprise five male and four female players.

ℱ Ly Hoang Nam was the gold medalist in the men’s singlesat SEA Games 30 and 31. If he successfully defends the gold medal at theupcoming SEA Games 32, it will be an unprecedented case as there has been no tennis player winning the championship title for three consecutive SEA Games.

The men's team will gather for training in the southern province of Tay Ninh, Cuong said, adding that the players can takepart in international tournaments to improve their skills before SEA Games 32 begins. The biggest challenge for the men's team now isfilling the vacancy left by veteran player Le Quoc Khanh who abruptlywithdrew from the squad to the Games, Cuong said.

For the women’s team, Savanna LyNguyen, who won a silver medal in the women’s singles event at SEA Games 30,continues to be a hope for Vietnam at SEA Games 32.
