Vietnam, Thailand eye further cooperation

At their meeting inBangkok on December 20 during PM Dung’s visit to attend the 5thGreater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Summit , the two leaders expressed theirdelight at the fruitful development of the friendly neighbourliness andstrategic partnership between Vietnam and Thailand .

They agreed to effectively implement agreements reached during PrimeMinister Prayut Chan-ocha’s official visit to Vietnam last November,including the organisation of the third joint cabinet meeting and theenhancement of bilateral cooperation in all spheres.

Host and guest showed their determination to strengthen economic-tradeand investment collaboration, particularly in the fields of rice andrubber.

The two sides will also increase waterwayand road transport connectivity, including the opening of bus routes toboost their cultural exchanges and tourism development.

They consented to join hands in raising awareness of fishermen andhandling violations committed by ships and fishermen in line withinternational law and the flourishing friendship between the twocountries, and in the spirit of humanity.

The leaders agreed to continue fostering cooperation at regional and international forums.

The Thai PM informed his guest that Thailand is implementingregistration procedures for Vietnamese guest workers in the countrywhile considering the signing of an agreement on labour cooperation withVietnam .

PM Nguyen Tan Dung stressed theimportance of enhanced cooperation in using water resources of theMekong River in an effective and sustainable manner, for the interestsof residents living along the river as well as for regional cooperationand development.-VNA
