Vietnam to contribute more to UN peace-keeping mission

Hanoi (VNA) –♉ Joining in UN peace-keeping operations is the major guideline of the Vietnamese Party and State that aims to actualise the country’s foreign policy of multilateralisation and diversification of relations, and actively and constructively contribute to global security and peace.
Deputy Defence Minister Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh was speaking at a meeting in Hanoi on December 29 to review Vietnam’s contributions to UN peace-keeping activities in 2015 and discuss how to prepare forces for the mission in the coming time.
He praised agencies under the Ministry of National Defence and the General Staff for outstandingly fulfilling their assigned tasks regarding preparations for and deployment of peace-keeping forces.
The Deputy Minister commented on the two Vietnamese officers’ participation in UN peace-keeping mission in South Sudan and Central Africa, which, he said, demonstrates Vietnam’s efforts in maintaining stability in “hot spots” across the world.
According to Vinh, the Vietnam Peacekeeping Centre is scheduled to make public the second-level field hospital and a company of engineers in the first quarter of 2016.
The centre will continue to train peace-keeping forces in line with the UN standards and stands ready to join UN peace-keeping mission when required, he noted.
At the same time, more English classes will be held for Vietnamese soldiers under cooperation programmes with foreign partners, Vinh said.-VNA
