Vietnam to contribute to 29th session of UN Human Rights Council

A Vietnamese delegation is participating in the 29th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC) which started on June 15 in Geneva, Switzerland, in its capacity as member of the HRC’s in the 2014-2016 tenure and as co-coordinator of ASEAN at the council in 2015.
A Vietnamese delegation is participating in the 29th session of theUnited Nations Human Rights Council (HRC) which started on June15 in Geneva, Switzerland, in its capacity as member of the HRC’s in the2014-2016 tenure and as co-coordinator of ASEAN at the council in 2015.

The delegation is led by Ambassador Nguyen Trung Thanh, Headof Vietnam’s Permanent Mission to the United Nation and otherinternational organisations in Geneva.

The delegation isexpected to contribute to general debates on human rights protection,particularly the protection of vulnerable groups such as women andchildren. The delegation will also host several events to shareVietnam’s experiences and ideas regarding the protection of humanrights, as part of activities to carry out the country’s commitment inconnection with its bid for the HRC membership.

The 29th HRCsession, to continue until July 3, will address several urgent globalissues concerning human rights and touch on migration and the situationin Ukraine, South Sudan, and Syria.
