Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnam has found itself in a tough group at the 2018 AsianWomen’s Cup, after a draw held on December 9 in Jordan.
The team is in Group B, together with thecontinental powerhouses of defending champions, Japan, the Republic of Korea and Australia.
In the 2014 tournament, Japan haddefeated Australia 1-0 in the finals, while the Republic of Korea hadfinished in the fourth position.
In Group A, hosts Jordan willcompete against China, Thailand and the Philippines.
Two top teams of each group will advanceto the semi-finals and grab their berths to compete at the World Cup 2019finals in France. The fifth slot will go to the third-placed team, withthe best result in Jordan.
The Asian Cup will be held in April 2018.
Vietnamese players will be summoned in Hanoifor training in early January under coach Mai Duc Chung. They will have a shortpractice course abroad during this time in Germany.-VNA
Vietnam won the title in the women’s football at the 29th Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 29) after defeating the hosts Malaysia 6-0 in the last match on August 24.
Ho Chi Minh City’s female football team lost 1-0 to a team from Gyeongsangbuk-do province of the Republic of Korea (RoK) at a friendship match in HCM City on October 22.
Vietnam was ousted from the AFC U19 Women’s Football Championship in Nanjing, China, after losing to Australia 2-5 in the third match of Group B’s qualifying round on October 22.

The U23 competition will run from June 16 to 22, followed by the U17 event from June 23 to 28, while athletes competing in the U23 category will undergo weight and skill checks ahead of the matches starting June 18, while similar checks for U17 athletes will take place before June 23.
