Hanoi (VNA) – The Party, State and people of Vietnam always treasuretraditional friendship with and give top priority to strengthening andenhancing the comprehensive strategic partnership with Russia, said PartyGeneral Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
Duringa reception for Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Hanoi on March 23,Party General Secretary Trong welcomed Lavrov’s official visit to Vietnam rightafter the Russian presidential election, hoping that under the leadership ofPresident Vladimir Putin, Russia will continue developing strongly andaffirming its important position in the international arena.
TheParty chief stressed that the deepening reliable political relations betweensenior leaders of Vietnam and Russia is a firm foundation to further step upcooperative ties in other fields.
Toreach the target of 10 billion USD in two-way trade by 2020, the two sides needto create breakthroughs in implementing the Vietnam-Eurasian Economic UnionFree Trade Agreement and well carry out prioritized tasks, focusing oncooperation projects in the fields of economy, trade, investment, oil and gasand nuclear energy, he noted.
Lavrovbriefed his host about Russia’s situation, especially the results of the recentpresidential election.
Vietnamis always prioritised in Russia’s foreign policy and a leading partner ofRussia in the Asian-Pacific region, he said, adding that Russia always wants towitness Vietnam’s strong development and growingly important position in theregion and the world as well.
Theminister affirmed that the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs will spare noeffort to accelerate the implementation of bilateral cooperation agreements inall spheres, thereby creating practical changes in relations between the twonations in the coming time.-VNA
