Vietnam triumphs at regional wrestling champs

Vietnam topped the medal tally at the Southeast Asian Wrestling Championship which wrapped up in the northern province of Bac Ninh on November 25.

Bac Ninh (VNA) -
Vietnamtopped the medal tally at the Southeast Asian Wrestling Championship whichwrapped up in the northern province of Bac Ninh on November 25.

The team bagged 24 goldmedals in all 24 categories in folk wrestling, women’s freestyle wrestling andmen’s freestyle wrestling.

“We sentthe best weightlifters to the event and played with fair-play spirit,” saidNguyen The Long, head of weightlifting section of the National SportsAdministration.

Some 125 athletes performedat the championship, which opened on November 23. They came from Indonesia,Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

The three-daytournament aimed to promote wrestling in the locality, Vietnam and abroad aswell as tighten solidarity among ASEAN member states, helping build a peacefuland prosperous bloc.

At thesame event held last year, Vietnam sent 15 players and all of them gained goldmedals.-VNA
