The event is a warm up for thenational team before they fly to Indonesia to take part in the 2018 AFC U19Championship finals, according to the VFF’s vice president, Tran Quoc Tuan. The AFC event will run from October18 to November 4, drawing the participation of 16 teams. Vietnam are in Group Cwith Australia, the Republic of Korea and Jordan. The top four teams of the tournamentwill qualify for the 2019 FIFA U20 World Cup scheduled to take place in Polandnext year. In 2016, under head coach Hoang AnhTuan, Vietnam progressed to the semi-final of the AFC U19 Championship and wona ticket to compete at the FIFA U20 World Cup. The U19 team will convene on August15 and will have a training session in Japan before leaving for Qatar. -VNA
