Hanoi (VNA) – Venezuelan Vice President and Minister of Communication and Information Freddy Nanez received Vietnamese Ambassador Vu Trung My on July 8, calling for stronger cooperation in information and communications between the two countries.

The host affirmed the crucial role of the media in safeguarding national independence and sovereignty, as well as in promoting the image of each country and its development aspirations.

The Vice President highlighted the two countries' similarities in their ideals of independence, freedom, and social justice, and in the pursuit of the people’s happiness—originating from the thoughts of Liberator Simon Bolivar and President Ho Chi Minh. He described this as a spiritual bond that unites the two peoples in their journey to safeguard sovereignty and boost socialism-based national development.

In that spirit, Nanez, who also serves as President of state-run Venezolana de Television (VTV), proposed that the two countries intensify cooperation in information and communications, and regard this as a key area of people-to-people diplomacy. He noted the essential role of mass media in introducing each country’s history, culture, development potential, and achievements.

He expressed his hope that the two national TV broadcasters, Venezolana de Television and Vietnam Television, will soon establish a concrete cooperation mechanism to share information, produce thematic programmes, enhance professional exchanges, and convey official and objective information on each country's situation.

Ambassador My thanked Vice President Nanez and other Venezuelan leaders for their affection and support for the Vietnamese Party, State, and people. He reaffirmed Vietnam’s commitment to strengthening its comprehensive partnership with Venezuela and expressed the willingness to work closely together to foster substantive and effective media cooperation.

My also praised the Venezuelan broadcaster for regularly reporting on Vietnam's development, particularly its timely coverage of Vietnam's launch of the two-tier local administration model on July 1—a major milestone in the country’s ongoing administrative reform and state apparatus modernisation.

The diplomat presented Vice President Nanez with a Spanish-language edition of the poetry collection "Prison Diary" by Ho Chi Minh, on the occasion of the 135th birth anniversary of the late Vietnamese leader. The edition, published by the World Publishing House, was translated by renowned Cuban poet and translator Felix Pita Rodriguez.

꧒ Nanez, who is also a poet and writer, shared that he had read the collection multiple times with great admiration. He described "Prison Diary" as more than just a poetry book, calling it a revolutionary epic that embodies the great soul and eternal ideal of President Ho Chi Minh to transcend literature and become a lasting source of inspiration for all those committed to national independence and the happiness of the people./.
