Hanoi (VNA) – Close to7.3 million foreign tourists visited Vietnam in the first five months of 2019,up 8.8 percent against the same period last year.
Of the total, visitors from Asiamade up the lion’s share at 76.8 percent, up 9.9 percent year-on-year.
Most of Vietnam’s key touristmarkets in the region, including the Republic of Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Thailand,and Singapore, followed an upward trend. China, however, recorded a slight fallof 0.8 percent.
Meanwhile, the number of touristsfrom Europe and America were estimated to have picked by up 5.9 and 4.9 percentfrom the same period of 2018, respectively.
During the five-month period, thenumber of foreign tourists to Vietnam by air and road recorded annual increasesof 6.3 and 23.7 percent, respectively; while that of those travelling onwaterways decreased by 17.5 percent year-on-year.
In May alone, over 1.3 millionforeign holidaymakers travelled to Vietnam, down 9.7 percent from the previousmonth, but up 14.3 percent from the same month of 2018.–VNA
