Vietnamese artist’s painting auctioned for over 2 million USD in Hong Kong

Hanoi (VNA)🥂 – The painting "Le Trois Femmes" (Three Ladies) by Vietnamese artist Nguyen Gia Tri was sold for over 16.1 million HKD (more than 2 million USD) in an auction in Hong Kong on March 29.
The auction "In Quest for Eternity: The Philippe Damas Collection" organised by Christie's Hong Kong (China) featured a painting collection by Philippe Damas – a businessman with years of working in Asia. Many works in the collection were created by Vietnamese famous artists.
The painting "Le Trois Femmes" (1934) reached the highest price at the event with its selling price being four times higher than the initial estimate of about 4-6 million HKD.
This price puts Tri’s painting in the 4th place out of the 10 most expensive Vietnamese paintings, after Mai Trung Thu's “Chan dung co Phuong” (Portrait of Ms. Phuong) sold for 3.1 million USD in 2021, Le Pho’s “Gia dinh trong vuon” (Family in the Garden) 2.37 million USD in 2023 and "Dang hinh trong vuon” (Figure in the Garden) 2.29 million USD in 2022.
According to statistics from HENI News, there were 40 works that were successfully hammered in the auction on March 29. The total value is about 60.5 million HKD (7.78 million USD).
Outstanding works include "Marché au Tonkin" by Jos Henri Ponchin sold for 3.5 million HKD (initially expected 240.00-350,000 HKD), and "Le retour de marché" by Joseph Inguimberty 12.5 million HKD (expected 1.2-2.2 million HKD)
At the same auction, a series of works by famous Vietnamese painters such as Nguyen Sang, To Ngoc Van, Tran Phuc Duyen, Luu Van Sin, Vu Cao Dam and Le Pho were also sold./.
The Vietnam Fine Arts Museum held a ceremony on November 12 to receive a painting titled “Hillsides in Deli Ibrahim (Algiers)” by Ham Nghi, an exiled Vietnamese king, and introduce the book “Ham Nghi – Exiled Emperor, Artist in Algeria”.
The ambassador noted that among the 300,000 Vietnamese residing in the RoK, around 3,000 are living in Pyeongtaek and contributing actively to the local economy. Ho expressed his hope that the local authorities will continue support the overseas Vietnamese community in the city.

The Vietnamese team will gather on June 26 in Ba Ria-Vung Tau, where they will train until July 14 before departing for Indonesia for the ASEAN U23 Championship 2025, which runs from July 15 to 29. Vietnam will face Laos on July 19 and Cambodia on July 22 in the group stage.
The exhibition showcases more than 100 valuable documents and artifacts, divided into two main parts: “Journalist Nguyen Ai Quoc – Ho Chi Minh” and “President Ho Chi Minh – Founder and Mentor of Vietnamese Revolutionary Press.” This is an opportunity to recall the late leader’s journalism journey and affirm his exceptional role in founding and guiding the revolutionary press in Vietnam.
For the first time, the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) has granted Vietnam hosting rights for the two championships, including the Asian women’s solo category, which debuts this year as an officially recognised event.
