Vietnamese athletes win three golds at Thailand Open

Vietnamese athletes won three gold medals on the third day of competition at the Thailand Open Track and Field Championship on June 14 in Bangkok.

Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnamese athletes won three gold medals on the third day ofcompetition at the Thailand Open Track and Field Championship on June 14 inBangkok.

LeTu Chinh secured her second gold here after winning in the women’s 200m eventwith a time of 23.52sec. She ran 0.08sec faster than Singapore’s VeronicaShanti Pereira who triumphed at the SEA Games in 2015.

On June12, Chinh grabbed the first gold for Vietnam in the 100m class.

Sheis expected to score a hat trick of wins when she competes in the 4x100m eventtoday.

NguyenHoai Van won the first title in the men’s javelin event with a throw of 72.26m,setting a new national record. The old record of 69.07m was made by Nguyen TruongGiang in 2011.

Van’sresult was also better than that of Hussadin Rodmanee of Thailand (70.96m) whowon a silver medal at the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games two years ago.

Thesecond title went to Do Quoc Luat in the men’s 3,000m steeplechase. Thenational champion completed his race with a time of 9min 12.89sec, leaving hisrivals far away with a six-second gap.

Itwas his second gold in Thailand as he earlier triumphed in the 1,500m event onJune 12.

Vietnamalso pocketed a silver yesterday by Nguyen Thi Hang in the women’s 400mhurdle.-VNA
