Hanoi (VNA) – An event to highlightoutstanding examples in a campaign responding to the global environmentalchallenge “Red Alert - Earth Can’t Wait” launched by global organisation Savethe Children took place in Hanoi on October 4, with more than 300 participants.
The event was co-held by non-governmentalorganisations Management and Sustainable Development Institute (MSD) and theFor Vietnamese Stature Foundation (VSF). Speaking at the event, MSD ExecutiveDirector Nguyen Phuong Linh affirmed though children are vulnerable to the impactof climate change and environmental pollution, they can contribute toprotecting the environment through their actions. As part of the campaign, the MSD and Savethe Children held a short film contest for participants who are under 25 yearsold. According to a survey conducted by the MSDand Save the Children, with the participation of 1,700 children across sevenVietnamese localities, eight out of 10 respondents voiced their concern aboutenvironmental pollution, especially water, air and land contamination and overconsumptionand wastefulness of natural resources, among others. One third of the interviewees said thatthey could not go to school or take part in outdoor activities due to climatechange and environmental problems./.
Along with its challenges, Vietnamese companies see climate change as an opportunity to speed up restructuring, reorganise production, and create new products and technologies, according to a report from the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and the Asian Foundation released on September 16.
