Vietnamese culture festival held in Seoul

The 8th Vietnamese culture festival (Vietfest Seoul 2018) was held at Gwanghwamun Square in downtown Seoul, the Republic of Korea (RoK), on September 2 to celebrate the 73rd National Day of Vietnam.

Seoul (VNA) – The 8th Vietnamese culturefestival (Vietfest Seoul 2018) was held at Gwanghwamun Square in downtownSeoul, the Republic of Korea (RoK), on September 2 to celebrate the 73rdNational Day of Vietnam.

The event was attended by Vietnamese Ambassadorto the RoK Nguyen Vu Tu, deputy head of the Communist Party of Vietnam CentralCommittee’s Commission for Information and Education Bui Truong Giang, SeoulMayor Park Won-soon, other local officials, and thousands of Vietnamese people.

Opening the festival, Chairwoman of theVietnamese People Association in the RoK Nguyen Ngoc Cam, who is also HonoraryMayor of Seoul, said the event helps expatriates, who number 180,000 in the RoKat present, to remember their origin. Meanwhile, local people could betterunderstand the traditional culture of Vietnam, thereby enhancing thecooperation and friendship between the two countries.

The festival featured a number of activities,including a Vietnamese-Korean talent search contest, a painting competition forchildren of Vietnamese-Korean families, a parade of traditional costumes ofVietnam, a fashion show, an arts programme by Vietnamese artists, introductionof Vietnamese handicrafts and cuisine, and folk games.

Ambassador Tu said organsing the Vietfest Seoulon the National Day at a sacred historical and cultural place like GwanghwamunSquare was an illustration of the close-knit relations between Vietnam and theRoK since their diplomatic ties were set up 26 years ago.

He stressed that bilateral connections in allthe three aspects of politics, economy and culture are growing well, and thetwo sides will keep promoting people-to-people and cultural exchanges as wellas labour and educational cooperation in the time ahead.-VNA

𝓡 Vietnam re-elected to 2005 UNESCO Convention’s Intergovernmental Committee

This is the first time since the adoption of the Convention that a country has served two consecutive terms on the Committee.
