Vietnamese GM advances at Spring Chess Classic in US
Vietnam’s top chess player Le Quang Liem continued his progress by beating Grandmaster Rustam Kasimdzhanov from Uzbekistan in the fourth round of the ongoing Spring Chess Classic on March 5 in Saint Louis, Missouri, the US.

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam’s top chessplayer Le Quang Liem continued his progress by beating Grandmaster RustamKasimdzhanov from Uzbekistan in the fourth round of the ongoing Spring ChessClassic on March 5 in Saint Louis, Missouri, the US.
Grandmaster Liem (Elo rating 2,715), defeatedKasimdzhanov (FIDE World Champion in 2004-2005) after the Uzbek player madesome mistakes in the final minute.
The victory brought Liem back into the firstgroup of the tournament with 2.5 points.
In the next game, Liem will play Armenian-bornAmerican Grandmaster Varuzhan Akobian (Elo 2,643), who got 1.5 points in thefourth round.-VNA
Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan proposed that the World Chess Federation design suitable cooperation forms to help the city boost the development of the sports, especially in schools.
Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam has asked the World Chess Federation (FIDE) to help Vietnam with the organisation of big tournaments and refereeing work.
This is the first time since the adoption of the Convention that a country has served two consecutive terms on the Committee. The outcome shows the trust and recognition that member states have given Vietnam for its efforts and achievements in carrying out and promoting the Convention, as well as for its active role, strong standing, and growing credibility at UNESCO.
