Vietnamese, Japanese Prime Ministers hold phone talks

Hanoi (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc held talks over thephone with his Japanese counterpart Suga Yoshihide on October 12, during whichhe once again congratulated the latter on being elected to his position.
Phuc affirmed that Vietnam always considers Japan itsstrategic, important and long-term partner and wishes, together with thecountry, to promote bilateral cooperation as well as cooperation in regionaland international issues of mutual concern, for the interests of the twopeoples, and contributing to peace, stability and cooperation in the region andthe world.
He expressed his gratitude for Japan’s valuable support forVietnam in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic and hopes that both sides willcontinue supporting each other to defeat the pandemic.
Suga Yoshihide showed his delight at strong development inbilateral relations. He affirmed that Japan treasures and want to bring thebilateral cooperation to a new height.
He spoke highly of the role and position of Vietnam in theregion and the world, adding that Japan will collaborate closely with Vietnamfor the success of the upcoming ASEAN Summit.
He also extended his sympathy to people in central Vietnam whoare suffering losses caused by severe flooding.
The Vietnamese Government leader took the occasion to invitehis Japanese counterpart to visit Vietnam at a convenient time. The latteraccepted the invitation./.
Vietnam welcomes Japanese Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide to visit Vietnam, Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang affirmed on October 1 when giving comments on information saying that the new Japanese PM may pay an official visit to Vietnam this month.
The Japanese Government has recently stated that it will reopen its borders to citizens of 10 countries and territories, including Australia, New Zealand, and Vietnam, starting from October 1.
With significant investment in building transport and industrial infrastructure as well as favourable mechanisms and policies in support of investors, Vinh Phuc is emerging as an attractive destination for Japanese businessmen.
The Governments of Vietnam and Japan are set to come to an agreement to allow businesspeople to resume travelling between the two countries for short work-related trips as early as this month, reported Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper.

During the negotiations, the US highly evaluated Vietnam’s goodwill and efforts, affirmed its appreciation for the bilateral relationship, acknowledged Vietnam’s proposals and concerns, and considered these an important basis for continuing discussions and moving towards a final agreement.
